A proposal to convert a vineyard's storage building into a residence. Working alongside my mentor — each of us developing a separate sketch design — I let the views out across the vines and the quality of daylight entering each room set the organisation of the plan.
To preserve and enhance the building's industrial character, the scheme proposes Corten (weathering) steel cladding externally: a material that settles into the agricultural setting and changes with the seasons rather than fighting them. Internally, a courtyard draws light deep into the plan and gives the house a quiet centre.
